RVC SERVES RICHMOND

We're a non-profit 501(c)3 growing a vibrant community of volleyball lovers since 1981.

Whether you're looking to play, compete, grow, or just connect with friends new and old over volleyball and happy hours, we're glad you're here.

OUR MISSION:

We create community, wellness, opportunity, and belonging for all people through the sport of volleyball.

We Believe...

  • Everyone can be an athlete.
  • Everyone deserves a safe, inclusive space to play.
  • A healthy body, healthy mind, and healthy social life all go hand-in-hand.
  • Good sportsmanship on the court leads to good citizenship off the court.
  • We find strength in community, and we must serve ours.

Our History

In 1981, two local leagues, TRAVL (The Richmond Area Volleyball League) and Fan League, joined forces to create Richmond Volleyball Club at 3300 W. Marshall Street. With nightly leagues for adults of all skill levels, it became the place to be for volleyball in Richmond.

RVC's popularity soared in the '80s, and we needed more space. Enter RVC West in the fall of 1991, with six courts at 1907 Westmoreland Street. Between RVC West and RVC East on Marshall, we boasted ten courts total and hundreds of players. And we were still growing!

After much searching, we found our dream spot in January 2010: RVC's Byrdhill location. With 12 indoor courts and outdoor areas for volleyball, tailgating, and more, it became one of the region's largest (and most spirited) dedicated volleyball hubs. While RVC East closed, RVC West remained open and active.

When a junior club in Chesterfield dissolved, we saw a chance to serve even more players. Partnering with the Economic Development Authority, RVC Stonebridge opened in March 2018. With eight courts spanning 50,000 sq. ft., it's a custom-built haven for our junior programs. Conveniently located at the Stonebridge Shopping Center, it's surrounded by shops and restaurants, with easy interstate access.

In May 2018, RVC West closed, and we brought everyone together at our modern facilities at Stonebridge and Byrdhill, which was recently upgraded to offer pickleball!

Outreach

From after-school programs for Richmond Public Schools to camps with Henrico, Chesterfield, and Richmond City Parks & Rec groups, to grants, scholarships, and financial aid for families who need it most, RVC commits to serving our community and increasing access to the sport we love.

Currently, RVC has more 2,300 active members and +/- 240 teams participating in evening recreational leagues Sunday through Friday, four seasons per year.

More than 1,600 adult members play in leagues that run throughout the year and more than 500 junior players, ages 4-18, participate in our junior programs, all while supporting numerous USAV junior travel teams and many junior developmental programs annually.

Between our sites (RVC Byrdhill and RVC Stonebridge), we have 20 courts, and our facilities include a cafe, weight training room, meeting rooms, and showers.

We are extremely proud of our outreach efforts reaching underserved communities with partners such as Henrico Education Foundation, NextUp, City of Richmond Parks and Recreation, and Henrico, Chesterfield, and Richmond Police Athletic Leagues. RVC also hosts many adult and junior tournaments, beach leagues, skills clinics, private lessons, referee training, and other special events.
